It’s Spring. That Means It’s Time For Wet Cyanotypes Again!

I love wet cyanotypes. As a redhead though, they cause conflicting emotions. I tend to hide from the sun, love wintery rainy days, and in general prefer to stay inside. But wet cyanotypes do best on hot, sunny days so now I find myself looking forward to the sun. This next image was the first wet cyanotype of the year. I have some frilly tree in my front yard and a red salvia plant in my garden. I sprinkled some turmeric and baking soda to the wet chemicals.

The next three were various plants from my mother-in-law’s yard. This time I remembered to add salt to the mix.

This last one was using the same frilly bits from the tree along with weeds and flowers from my garden. But this time I printed it on fabric. The sun reflected back up underneath and toned down my whites. I need to remember to keep that in mind.

It’s a short post. Just sharing these prints. Next post I will be sharing my new digital negatives and bemoaning the fact that I need to reprint my entire binder of negatives after discovering this new method. The joys of being an artist. It’s a never-ending experiment
